Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has refused to apologise for calling BBC Scotland journalist Jane Lewis a 'good woman' amid accusations of sexism.

The previous Liverpool supervisor has faced criticism for his comment which he made in a tense post-match interview after Sunday's 3-1 win over Motherwell.

Rodgers was accused of 'informal sexism' by campaign group For Ladies Scotland whereas a spokeswoman from the Scottish Feminist Network referred to as him a 'dinosaur'.

However the Northern Irishman has played down the incident, insisting that he has a very good professional relationship with Lewis and that she was not offended.

'I've spoken to Jane and she or he wasn't offended, we had amusing about it,' Rodgers stated. 'She'll proceed to ask me awkward questions I'm positive.

'But I see her every week. We've obtained good relations, like I've with most individuals in my life, whether that's skilled or social.

'So I find it saddening as much as something, I'm not that sort of individual, it's not who I'm or how I'm constructed.

'However sadly for society now, individuals are simply wanting and looking for methods to someway deliver you down if they will and that's not good.

'Obviously sadly for me I feel now in society, the place individuals want to find something that's offensive to attempt to pin onto individuals.

'You guys up right here, any journalist or reporter, I've all the time based mostly my life on relationships so I've all the time provided a heat, respect, being courteous and provided time to individuals. That may by no means change.

'The irony of it all is, and I shared this with players not long ago, the story of Jessica Watson, who was a young lady, 16, who travelled around the globe solo on a ship and the documentary I watched was actually inspiring.

'True Spirit – it was referred to as – and I shared that with the players when it comes to the inspiration they might take from a young lady like that, what she'd been via.'

BBC Scotland reporter Lewis, meanwhile, stated: 'Clearly, the interview on Sunday has grow to be a speaking level. I don't consider there was any offence meant by Brendan Rodgers – and in my opinion, there was none taken.'

A spokeswoman from For Ladies Scotland stated: 'It's miserable that informal sexism continues to be embedded in sport.

'Ladies's achievements are underrated and dismissed, and their skilled standing undermined. Rodgers owes the reporter an apology.'&

A Scottish Feminist Network spokeswoman added: 'Jane Lewis was just doing her job, making an attempt to extract an evidence from Brendan Rodgers on his cryptic remark.

'That the go-to angle was condescension is sort of illuminating, but actually very depressing in 2024.

'We thought dinosaurs have been extinct.'

Rodgers' Celtic aspect presently sit second within the Scottish Premiership – two factors behind their arch rivals Rangers – who sit prime after 27 video games this season.
