THE LEGACIES of the 44 brave males who died on Jan. 25 in Mamasapano, Maguindanao province, go beyond the camouflage they wore, the black berets they earned and the medals they merited as members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Drive.

1. Police Senior Inspector Ryan Ballesteros Pabalinas

The last time Ryan Ballesteros Pabalinas left his house, his spouse Erica and their daughter didn't need him to go.

13. Police Officer 3 Noel Onangey Golocan

Rachel is 5 months pregnant with their first baby. She stated she would inform their little woman "na namatay na bayani ang tatay niya."

She refused to simply accept her husband's medal of valor from President Benigno Aquino III at the necrological providers on Jan. 30.

John Lloyd's mother, Telly, remembered her son as generous, as he always brought presents for relatives from places he went to for missions.

18. Police Officer 2 Amman Misuari Esmula

Peterson's wife Janet and Solomon Agayso, Peterson's classmate and teammate who survived the bloody encounter, advised GMA about Peterson's last moments of heroism.

Solomon stated, "Naghahanap sila kung sino mag-point man sa staff namin. Ako ang tinatawag pero siya ang nag-volunteer, siya ang nagsabing "Ako na lang." 'Pag nasa unahan ka kasi, ikaw ang mapapa-engage."

Although pained by his demise, Janet is making an attempt to return to terms with the choices he made in his last hours: "Sabi daw niya sa isa, i-cover mo ako, pupunta ako sa baba kasi kawawa sila dun… Dun siya nadali…"

When Interior Secretary Mar Roxas visited Peterson's wake at Barangay Irisan in Baguio Metropolis, he handed two checks to the widowed Janet. She accepted them however made positive to tell the secretary what was exactly on her thoughts.
