Chiefs HC gives update on Patrick Mahomes' injury recovery

When it comes to professional athletes recovering from injuries, no news is usually good news.

USA TODAY Sports

That should bode well forKansas City ChiefsquarterbackPatrick Mahomes, who is working his way back from a torn ACL and LCL. WhenChiefshead coachAndy Reidspoke to reporters at the annual league meeting on March 31, he gave something of a there-is-no-update update on his star quarterback.

Asked about Mahomes' timeline to return from injury, Reid said he'll leave it to the medical team to determine whether or not the quarterback is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery.

"I'm going to defer to the experts on that," Reid said when asked if Mahomes would be limited for training camp. "So, if he's good to go, he'll go. If he's not, we'll manage that. So, we'll just cross it as we go. Everybody's different. Everybody heals different. Everybody's injuries are a little bit different. We don't have to put him in a category. We'll see, see where it goes."

Reid added that it's been all "positive" for the passer during his rehab.

Kerem Aktürkoğlu gave Turkey the lead early in the second half, tapping home on the doorstep after a scuffed shot from Orkun Kökçü.

That was all the visitors needed as they advanced to the World Cup for the first time since 2002.

That team will be Turkey, which defeated Romania 1-0 in a semifinal on Thursday, March 26 before victory over Kosovo on Tuesday at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium in Pristina, Kosovo.

“In the wake of the Iran situation, the importance of resources and energy security is being recognized globally,” said Japanese Prime MinisterSanae Takaichiin a joint news conference after holding talks with Indonesian PresidentPrabowo Subiantoin Tokyo.

The details of the agreement are yet to be made public.

The two countries signed a deal this month to boost economic collaboration on critical minerals and nuclear energy, Takaichi said Tuesday.

Under the memorandum signed on March 15, the two sides will cooperate in building a new nuclear power plant, possibly in Indonesia’s West Kalimantan, using Japanese expertise, with potential funding by development banks, according to a document released by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Probowo also said his country invited Japanese cooperation in processing critical minerals such asrare earthelements, as well as in renewables and nuclear power

Japan, despite the 2011Fukushima nuclear disaster, is now promoting nuclear energy and seeking to expand cooperation with Southeast Asian nations as part of its zero-carbon emissions initiative. Indonesia islooking to nuclear powerto meet surging energy demands.

Indonesia last year announced plans to build two small modular reactors on a southern Indonesian island by 2034. Officials there say Canada and Russia have issued formal cooperation proposals.

Takaichi and Prabowo also agreed to deepen cooperation to help stabilize supply chains, including liquefied natural gas, Japan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Resource-scarce Japan is among the world's top importers of LNG, and about 5% of its supply comes from Indonesia.

Japan, more than 90% of whose oil imports come from the Middle East, is also seeking to diversify suppliers. The country started releasing state and commercial oil reserves this month to stabilize its market.

Pilots of helicopters that hovered near Kid Rock's home no longer suspended, Defense secretary says

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Army pilots who hovered two helicopters near Kid Rock’s Tennessee home during a training run while he clapped and saluted have had their suspension lifted, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Tuesday.

“No punishment. No Investigation. Carry on, patriots,” Hegseth said in a social media post. The Pentagon didn't immediately respond for comment.

Earlier, a U.S. Army spokesperson said the crews of the two AH-64 Apache helicopters were suspended from flying, pending an investigation into their actions. The suspension was a discretionary — but not unusual — step when an investigation is underway, Maj. Montrell Russell said.

“The Army has confirmed that on March 28, two Apache helicopters from the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell conducted a flight in the Nashville area that has attracted public and media attention,” according to a statement from the Army on Tuesday. The Army said it would review whether the flight complied with FAA regulations and aviation safety protocol.

Kid Rock, who is an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump, told WKRN-TV on Monday that it's not uncommon for helicopters from nearby Fort Campbell to fly near his home. He said he is a big supporter of the military and he's performed for troops overseas in Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries.

“I think they know this is a pretty friendly spot,” he said. He noted that last Thanksgiving he was at Fort Campbell, a sprawling Army base on the Tennessee-Kentucky border, with Vice President JD Vance. “I've talked to some of these pilots. I've told them, ‘You guys see me waving when you come by the house?' I’m like, ‘You guys are always welcome to cruise by my house, any time,’” he said.

Kid Rock posted two short videos on social media Saturday. Each shows a helicopter hovering alongside his swimming pool while the entertainer claps, salutes and raises his fist in the air. One post included a caption by Kid Rock disparaging Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a frequent Trump critic.

Speaking at the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump suggested maybe the crews shouldn’t have done it before adding, “I like Kid Rock, maybe they were trying to defend him, I don’t know.”

In the videos, Kid Rock stands next to a replica of the Statue of Liberty and a sign by the pool that reads, “The Southern White House.” His home on a hill overlooking Nashville was built to resemble the White House.

The helicopters were on a training mission when they stopped by Kid Rock's house, said Maj. Jonathon Bless, public affairs officer for the 101st Airborne Division. The helicopters also flew over a “No Kings” protest against Trump in downtown Nashville, but Bless said their presence had nothing to do with the protest.

Kid Rock said he thought it was “really cool” that they stopped to hover at his house.

“If it makes their day a little brighter for their service to our country, protecting us, I think that’s a great thing," he said.

Asked about possible repercussions for the crews, he said, “I think they’re going to be all right. My buddy’s the commander in chief.”

Associated Press reporters Collin Binkley in Washington and Audrey McAvoy in Honolulu contributed to this story.
